About us
Our History, at the Service of Your Future
Past
Since 1986, we have been building solutions for resistance welding..
We started as a small family-run company, designing simple machines with a clear goal in mind: to solve real production problems with robust, functional solutions, combining technical expertise with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Over the years, every project has been an opportunity to grow—from the first rotary tables to multiple spot welders, from robotic welding guns to our flagship product: the Marta System cartesian Robot.
We have gained specific and cross-sector know-how, working side by side with automotive manufacturers, wire products specialists, and metal furniture producers across Europe and beyond.
Each machine, each system, each challenge has taken us one step further, allowing us to turn our experience into tangible value for our customers.

Present
Today, we design and manufacture turnkey welding systems, fully customized to meet your specific needs. We manage every step in-house, from mechanical and software design to final testing, thanks to a skilled and responsive team.
Our machines stand out for their flexibility, speed, and reliability. We work alongside our customers to solve everyday production issues such as:
- Reducing cycle times
- Managing different products with a single system
- Automating processes that previously required manual labor
- Avoiding downtime and boosting productivity
- Ensuring consistently strong and reliable weld quality in their products
Future
We continue to innovate , offering solutions that are increasingly high-performing and safe, with a growing focus on automation and process sustainability.
Our goal is to enhance your competitiveness: helping you simplify today’s work while building the factory of tomorrow.
Whether it’s a new system, the optimization of an existing process, or fast technical support, we stand by your side to turn every project into a real advantage.
Our history
On June 26 the brothers Mario and Roberto De Vivo decide to leave the Company founded with their father Arturo De Vivo, and to create a new Company mainly engaged in welding. They join their respective experiences, born from the commercial cooperation with other historical Companies. They found GEM and begin dealing with Resistance, MIG and MAG welders.
In January 1987, GEM begins renting a space of 400 m² in the industrial area of Venaria Reale (TO).
The company hires two mechanics for assembling the machines. The first special machines with turntables and multiple welders for armored doors were designed and built.
In April 1989 GEM takes part for the first time in a national Fair named “New Technologies ” into the Halls of the Valentino Park in Torino.
Inside the premises, new offices are built, destined to house the technicians in charge of designing and managing the projects.
Gem signs a cooperation agreement with Robot Ind., the Italian distributor of Motoman.
In October 1992 GEM moves to the industrial area of Robassomero where a factory of 1000 m² with 200 m² of offices is built.
The first prototype of the Marta System, the product that will characterize Gem’s production in the coming years, is built.
The first robot grippers in the GPLF and GPRF series are built.
The first cartesian robot Marta System with 6 axis of movement, numerically controlled, is born.
In September 1997, Gem takes part in its first international fair in Essen, Germany, laying the foundations for the network of customers and distributors that today represents the company’s most valuable asset.
Gem obtains for the first time an important order in the automotive industry: 45 multiple spot welding machines for assembling parts of the body of the new Fiat Punto.
Gem obtains the ISO 9001 quality certification, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to a “customer satisfaction” policy.
Gem keeps growing and new facilities are required. Further 1,000 m² for operations and 160 m² for offices are added.
The first automatic electrode dressers of the G30 series are developed.
The first fully electric Marta System is born. There are 9 interpolated axes wich work in three dimensions for the welding of wire baskets. The machine is exhibited in Germany at Wire & Tube, the most important Fair in the world in the wire and tube industry.
In response to the demands of the automotive market, a revolutionary automatic gun change system is designed and built — an essential accessory for robotic welding cells.
The Customers’ request for more versatile machines pushed GEM to the development of the first automatic revolver cell for the welding of nuts and screws on car parts.
The Marta Modul series is created to weld 2000 x 1000 grids on two stations and is subsequently also used for projection welding of nuts and screws.
Creation of the Marta System with new integrated safety robotic technology, developed by Gem in collaboration with Keba and Bosch Rexroth.
The new Marta System 9ax is presented to the public at WIRE 2012. This resistance welding robot is a machine that has been completely revamped in terms of mechanics and electrical management, increasing speed and welding performance by 30%.
November 2015
Expansion of the plant with 500 sqm. for the production area and 100 smq. for offices.
June 2017
Expansion of the mechanical machining department with 5 new 5-axis
machining centers.
December 2017
Opening of the new production site as CAMSS in Volpiano – 120 m² of offices and 3,000 m² of production area.
November 2019
Gem attends for the first time the Blechexpo-Schweisstec Fair in Stuttgart, Germany.
